Welcome To Shanghai Live WebCam Cameras Page

You may have noticed that I have discontinued the PTZ cameras. Mainly, they used too much bandwidth and also most users were only trying to look into windows. I can utilize the bandwidth much more efficiently with Windows Media.

For those people that are not so paranoid and have broadband, here is a fun page for all cameras at once.

Web Cam Descriptions

Camera 1 has the best view. It faces north with a pan capable from about 300 degrees to about 90 degrees. You can see the Bund, Huang Pu river, Pearl TV Tower and Jinmao building. There is lots of river traffic at all hours.

Camera 2 is used in daytime for the ferry terminal. It has good view of the river and the ferry. The ferry costs .0625USD for walking passengers. Most are riding bicycles or motorcycles. There is not much scenery to the south or west as the view is blocked by buildings. At night it is facing Pudong and the Pearl Tower and Citigroup Buildings put on a light show every night.

Camera 2 is also my experimental stream. I may be changing stream, screen size or more. Check it out sometime, especially at night.

Camera 3 is a panning camera of the Bund and Pudong.

Camera 4 is a fixed position at the local intersection.

I have a little trouble getting good night shots of the lights. The cameras have AGC which overdrives the lights so they appear as white blurs even though they are very colorful lights. I am working on resolving this.

Thanks for looking at my webcams. I am still experimenting with cameras and software. I have also tried various webcam software but have decided to use WindowsMedia because it allows me to do more in less bandwidth. I used Webcam32 because it allows me to download still images for the home page in addition to the stream. It uses a relatively large mjpeg for delivery. It required too much bandwidth. I just cannot find a solution for low-latency streaming for PTZ and many users.
